Scenic golf in the foothills of the Olympics Mountains

Our picturesque golf course at Lake Cushman in Hoodsport, Wash., was built in 1968 as part of a housing community that still operates the course today. We're located in a beautiful resort area filled with hiking trails, sparkling lakes, and beautiful parks, with the Olympic National Forest just down the road. You'll have fantastic views of the mountains as you play, and our fairways meander among groves of tall fir trees.

Ours is a nine-hole course of regulation length that can be played twice for a par-72 round of golf, as many of our players do. On your second go-round, you will tee off from slightly different tee boxes. Our nine has two par-5s, two par-3s and five par-4s from the back tees.

Our first hole measures 465 yards from the back tees and 416 from the front. It runs uphill to an elevated green and is among the holes played against a backdrop of mountains, according to head golf professional and manager.

The second is a par-4 (267 yards from the back and 160 yard par 3 from the front). This slight dogleg left ends at a two tiered green.

The par-4 No. 3 (312 yards from the back and 300 from the front) is a straightaway hole with a green that slopes from back to front with a narrow approach to the green.

The 4th (a par-3 measuring 151 yards from the back and 103 from the front) has an undulating green surrounded by trees with a bunker on the left is not visible from the tee. “You tee off here over a creek, so you need to hit a solid shot." said our manager.

The par-4 No. 5 (390 yards from the back and 304 from the front) is a dogleg left that slopes up to a slightly elevated green. "This is the most demanding hole on the course and requires some length as well as accuracy," according to our manager.

The sixth hole, a 144-yard par-3 (124 from the front) where you make your shot toward an elevated green. You're teeing off here over a "golf ball eating" creek as well.

Our signature hole is No. 7, a par-4 that measures 388 yards from the back 378 and the front. On this dogleg right, you're driving toward a green with a pond to the right of it. “This is a real test of golf, and the pond presents some real strategy to your approach shot," Our manager said. Your blind tee shot takes you uphill to a landing area and then you need a 160-yeard shot downhill to the green.

The 8th is a 490-yard par-5 (463 yards from the front). This is a straightaway hole, but there is a hazard, a creek bed, off to the left. There is an out-of-bounds area on the right. You'll need three good shots here to reach the two-tiered green.

The 344-yard par-4 ninth (334 from the front) has a large cedar tree off to the left that forces you to play down the right side of the fairway toward a very undulating green. "This is a truly great finishing hole," says our manager.

Distances, ratings and slopes for an 18-hole round at Lake Cushman: 5,898 yards (68.1/111) and 5,209 yards (69.7/110).
